Badatz of Crown Heights, Horav Avrohom Osdoba, Horav Yitzchok Zirkind and Horav Shlomo Yehuda HaLevi Segal, (along with R’ Yossi Brook and Rabbi S.Z. Osdoba from the Vaad Hakashrus Administration) visited (inspected) David Elliott Poultry Farm (chicken plant) located in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to see the whole process of the shechita, hachshoro etc. The Rabbonim, Chavrei HaBadatz, reviewed the whole process of the shechita which is being done by Shochtim, Tmimim and Yirei Shomayim and were very impressed with the high standards and Hiddurim of this plant.
Horav Zirkind and Horav Segal, who were recently elected by the residents of Crown Heights to serve as members of the Beis Din (Rabbi Raitport could not come due to a family simcha), went through with Horav Osdoba (who is known in the world of Kashrus as a kashrus expert with close to 50 years experience) and reviewed the plant together. They are very proud to serve in this Beis Din which has a Mumche such as Horav Osdoba.
For Horav Zirkind personally, this visit was a nostalgic visit, being that his family is originally from Scranton, he remembers the Baalei Batim of the plant as little children and was very proud to see them today, operating a plant on the highest level of Kashrus.
After the visit (inspection), the Rabbonim had a meeting with all the shochtim, Rabbi Leibel Itkin, Rabbi Ben Tzion Rappaport, Rabbi Shmuli Rimler and Rabbi Ephraim Baitch. The Rabbonim pointed out to the Shochtim they were very happy with the Shochtim’s work and dedication. They discussed the importance of the job and the responsibility that is placed in their hands. They gave them words of chizuk and told them that besides their job as shochtim, which is holy work, they are also representing Lubavitch in the area. Therefore, they have to be very careful and be an example of how a Tomim and a Yirei Shomayim should act. The shochtim were happy to see the interest and involvement of the Chavrei HaBadatz and welcomed their visit warmly.
The owners of the plant, Moshe and Shlomo Fink, were very happy with the visit of the Rabbonim chavrei habadatz and thanked the Rabbonim for the privilege of having the first visit of the newly elected Rabbonim in their plant. They also said that any kashrus request the Rabbonim have, they are ready to do.
The Rabbonim summarized their visit by saying they were very happy with the kashrus setup in the plant and hoped to continue working with the plant in the future, in the most positive way.
